MSNBC anchor Rachel Maddow on Wednesday revealed that she has been treated for skin cancer.

“I do want to address just a quick personal matter here before we go on to the news, if you will indulge me for just a second,” Maddow began.

She recounted a minor league baseball game she attended with her wife Susan. At one point, Maddow said she “caught her giving me a squinty eye.”

Susan reportedly poked her in the neck and said that a mole had changed. The host also confirmed it with her longtime hairdresser. Maddow visited a dermatologist, a biopsy was conducted, and it was confirmed to be skin cancer.

“Skin cancer accounts for the vast majority of cancers diagnosed in the United States and the vast majority of skin cancers are removable, treatable,” Maddow noted, stressing the importance of discovering the cancer early.

Maddow said she had surgery at NYU Langone on Friday.

“They got all of it,” she said.

Maddow urged her viewers to be diligent about checking for skin cancer.
